The Elements by french-teapot The Elements by french-teapot
IT'S FINALLY FINISHED!!!!! This was the longest project I've EVER set myself to do. But it's finally done!! :D WHOOOOO!!

These are the four Elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water in that order. Any comments are extremely welcome! The good and the bad. I need to learn any mistakes I've made and also I just want to know your opinions on it! :D

EDIT 11-July-2011: Okay, I'm STILL getting comments and favourites on this, for which I'm very grateful. But please PLEASE check the date I did this before you offer criticism. This is YEARS old. I'm pretty sure I've improved since then.

Also, please no-one mention the lack of eyes anymore. I didn't draw them because at the time I thought it would look cool. That's all.

I think that while your art clearly has some thought put into it, there could have been some more shape to the people slash creatures. However, I really like how you overlapped the pictures a bit and put your own style into it. I think that you really made it obvious what you were doing, though, so that is a good sign. I also really like how you drew the fire in Fire's hands. It looks exactly right, and makes me believe that she actually does have fire in her hands. You achieved a sense of realism, while still keeping a sense of myth. Good job! :)
What do you think?

For earth, I think you should have off centered which way light would have hit the clothing. The shading would then be a little easier, plus perception of the drawings' depth would be better understood.

Thanks for the constructive criticism though!

I bet you've improved a lot in six years! As long as you're drawing you're improving, right?

Omg I loved how you put the words on their bodies/clothings to signify which element they are~ One question, why's wind pink? o.o

Um... I guess because I didn't know how to draw it back then. I think I was going more for a cloud effect rather than wind.

I didn't have a tablet either, so mouse-and-smudge-tool-abuse was the only way. XD

They're the chinese symbols for the respective elements, yeah.

Also, that is a SUPER old picture, and I don't really get why the missing eyes bother people so much but I'm not going to change it.

Thanks anyway!

It's actualy quite good. I like the small details that make it unique from any othere elementel interpretation. I like the chinese symbols for each element dicretely incorporated within the picture. You can tell which cultures theirdresses take inspiration from.
You can also tell that you intentionally avoided drawing the eyes of each person.

Though it has a fairly traditional layout, It gives me a very refreshed feeling. Nice use of space and color. I also think it has great lines

Did you use the original line art as the outlines?

kudos :floating:

Yes. I didn't have any of the art tools for the computer as I do now. So all it is, is scanned drawings coloured with a mouse.

Glad you like it! :D

The overlapping of each panel on the next is very well done; brings the four images together. I love how the water flowing through the elemental's hands is almost like sand. A pleasure to :favorite: :D
